Korean American Coalition – DFW (KAC-DFW) held its ninth Annual Awareness Banquet last Saturday, August 11th at the Sura Korean Bistro.
MC’d by Christine Lee of NBC5 DFW, the banquet was attended by more than 200 guests. Among the notable guests were Texas State Representative Linda Harper-Brown, Monica Alonzo of Dallas City Council, Consul-General of Korea in Houston Park Suk Bum, and President Jimmy Ahn of the Korean Society of Dallas.
Um Myong Hee, one of the two guest speakers at the event, talked about the human rights and political issues in North Korea. She is a pastor, who escaped from North Korea.
The other guest speaker, Consul-General Park, thanked KAC for its outstanding service and collaboration. "The Korean American Coalition has been an important engine in promoting mutual relations between Korea and the United States. Preceding members have laid a strong foundation for Korea-US relations and it is up to the future leaders of KAC to broaden and deepen this partnership" said Consul-General Park.
State Representative Harper-Brown was awarded with Service Recognition Award while Jimmy Ahn of KSD was awarded with Community Leadership Award for their "open door policy" with KAC and continued support for KAC’s cause.
Representative Harper-Brown, after thanking Consul-General Park and Pastor Um, congratulated KAC members and Dallas Korean-Americans by saying "On behalf of the entire state of Texas, I want to congratulate each and every one of you and tell you how glad we are that you are here in the greatest state in the nation. Thank you so very much."
President Jimmy Ahn of KSD became a bit emotional when he gave his award speech. "I received an award from KAC today. The next generation of Dallas Korean-Americans gave me this award. I will take this award as a reminder to work harder and more for our community. I wish KAC the very best in all future endeavors" said Ahn.
The banquet was well-prepared and the turnout was great. And the guest speakers were well received.
At the end of the banquet, new KAC officers and board members were introduced. The following are the new KAC officers and board members who will be leading the organization for the next year.
